~ 84 inches wide x 95 inches long
(about Queen size, but I always suggest that you measure what you're currently using + see how it compares. A 'perfect' quilt can be many dimensions, depending on your personal preferences. Don't forget 1/2 of any difference will be on one side of the bed + half on the other!)
Art. For your bed.
A quilt is functional + decorative. It can cover your whole bed or lay folded at the bottom. It can be an extra layer on cold nights or the only cover you need. It can make a big splash of pattern + colour or be the perfect soothing backdrop for attention-grabbing cushions. Then when you get bored with one side, you can flip it over + start again at the beginning. There really are so many options for one quilt!
This quilt is rectangular + either short side can be the top edge. If you're folding the quilt at the end of a bed, there are several options for which colours/sections are visible.
The patchwork top was sewn by my sister + I in the early days of Fish Eye Sisters. I was too intimidated to quilt it at the time, but I finally got around to doing it in early July.
MATERIALS: the top is pieced with batik fabrics made in India, where the designs are carefully stamped by hand. Since the pattern + the background colours are applied separately in a somewhat random way, every piece is unique. Cotton batik is used on the reverse + binding, too. All fabric has been pre-washed. Premium washable wool batting on the inside so it can be used year round. Yes, it's true! Wool is lightweight + breathes easily, so it keeps you warm in winter + also cool in summer. The machine quilting was created freehand, basically doodling with the machine. The cotton binding was folded over the edge and hand sewn in place.
NO DUPLICATES. There really is only one like this!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS: for a beautiful + long life, quilts should be washed as infrequently as possible. Spot clean as needed. Hang outside for in the sun for a couple of hours 2-3 times a year (on a nice dry summer day + again on a crisp, cold day in winter + before it's stored for any length of time). If a proper cleaning is needed, dry clean or wash in cold water, mild detergent, delicate cycle + lay flat to dry (on a deck or hanging straight over a deck railing is ideal).
All Fish Eye Sisters products are specially designed and completely handmade by Jen Manuell in her studio just north of Huntsville, Ontario, Canada. Her sister Sandra helped sew the patchwork top for this quilt.
